My soap making process
Today at Sanctuary Natural Farm, amidst the tranquil whisper of nature’s embrace, I embarked on the creation of our much-loved Lavender Soap. It’s a day that marks the harmonious blend of simplicity and artisanal craft, a journey from raw, pure ingredients to a bar of soap that promises to soothe and invigorate the senses.
*Morning: Preparation and Intent*
The morning air, crisp and fresh, sets the perfect backdrop as I gather the ingredients. Each component is chosen for its role in nurturing the skin: water as the foundation, extra virgin olive oil for its luxurious moisturizing properties, castor oil for a creamy lather, organic coconut oil for its cleansing quality, and organic shea butter for deep nourishment.
Though the fields lay dormant without lavender flowers for now, their essence is not forgotten. The dried lavender flowers and lavender essential oil, sourced with integrity, are ready to infuse our soap with their calming, aromatic properties.
*Midday: The Art of Mixing*
As the day unfolds, I begin the careful process of soap making. The lye is respectfully mixed with water, a step approached with care and reverence for the chemistry at play. As the solution cools, the oils and shea butter are gently warmed, preparing them to unite with the lye water.
The moment of mixing is a dance of elements, a delicate balance where the oils embrace the lye solution, beginning their transformation. To this blend, I add the heart of today’s creation: the lavender essential oil and dried flowers, stirring gently as the mixture comes to life, vibrant with the scent of blooming lavender.
*Afternoon: Molding Dreams*
With the mixture now vivid and alive, it’s poured into molds, each cavity a future bar of soap that holds the promise of natural care. The lavender flowers settle within, specks of nature’s beauty captured in the soap’s embrace.
As they settle into their molds, I cover them, allowing the warmth and magic of saponification to take place. It’s a quiet, yet profound moment, where time stands still, and the soap begins its journey to solidification.
*Evening: Reflections of a Soap Maker*
As the day comes to a close, the batch of Lavender Soap rests, a silent testament to the day’s labor and love. Without the fresh flowers in my garden, I relied on the dried lavender and its essential oil to carry the essence of serene fields into our soap. It’s a reminder of nature’s cycles, of adaptability and resilience.
Creating Lavender Soap today, from the gathering of each pure ingredient to the final pour, has been a meditation on the beauty of simplicity and the strength of natural elements. Even without the lavender blooming in our garden, its spirit infuses every bar, ready to bring a piece of Sanctuary Natural Farm’s tranquility into homes and hearts.
In the quiet of the evening, I look forward to the day these soaps will be ready to share, a natural extension of our farm’s ethos, promising gentle care and a moment of peace in the daily ritual of cleansing.
