My soap making process
Lavender Soap Creation
Today at Sanctuary Natural Farm, I started making our popular Lavender Soap. It was a day focused on blending simple, quality ingredients into a soap that aims to be both soothing and refreshing.
*Morning: Preparation and Intent* The morning was cool and fresh, perfect for gathering ingredients. Each one plays a specific role: water for the base, extra virgin olive oil for moisture, castor oil for lather, organic coconut oil for cleansing, and organic shea butter for nourishment. Dried lavender flowers and lavender essential oil, both ethically sourced, are set aside to add their calming scent to our soap.
*Midday: The Art of Mixing* By midday, I started mixing the ingredients. First, I carefully combined the lye with water, respecting the chemical reaction. As this mixture cooled, I warmed the oils and shea butter, preparing them to blend with the lye water. When mixing everything together, I added the lavender essential oil and dried flowers. Stirring them in, the mixture began to emit the fresh scent of lavender.
*Afternoon: Molding Dreams* Once mixed, I poured the soap into molds, turning liquid into future bars embedded with lavender flowers. I covered the molds to let the saponification process—turning the mix into soap—happen quietly.
*Evening: Reflections of a Soap Maker* By evening, the soap was setting, marking the end of today’s work. Relying on dried lavender and its oil, I aimed to capture the essence of a lavender field in our soap. This process reminded me of the importance of adapting and resilience. Making Lavender Soap today was a straightforward task, focusing on the beauty of simplicity and natural elements. Even without fresh lavender, the essence of the plant is in every bar, ready to offer a piece of Sanctuary Natural Farm's peace in the daily routine of our customers. I’m looking forward to when these soaps are ready to use, extending our farm's commitment to gentle, natural care.
